Frequently Asked Questions

What is TRAA?
TRAA is an acronym for The Rock Across Australia. It is a suite of music charts that provides an overview of musical activity within the Australian Christian community.

How many charts make up TRAA? And how often are they published?
Three.

  • TRAA's Top 30 is published weekly.
  • TRAA's Contemporary Praise Top 20 is published monthly.
  • TRAA's Independent Sales Chart is published quarterly

What do the charts depict?
TRAA's Top 30 presents the 30 most played songs each week on Christian radio.
TRAA's Contemporary Praise Top 20 presents the most played Contemporary Praise songs on Christian radio each month.
TRAA's Independent Sales Chart highlights the 20 best selling independent CDs each quarter.

How are the charts compiled?
For TRAA's Top 30 and Contemporary Praise charts, 25 stations provide airplay reports to TRAA. TRAA collates and weights them according to population/ the average spin rate of each station.
Independent artists and labels registered with TRAA provide quarterly sales reports to TRAA. This is open to all Independent Christian artists/labels in Australia.

When did it start?
TRAA published the first report 15 February 1999.

Why did it start?
TRAA was established to serve both the Christian music community and Christian radio sector. And to provide a national research tool to support a national Christian music radio countdown.

Is participation compulsory?
No, participation is voluntary.

Who subscribes?
Australian and international distributors, record labels, musicians, managers, lobbyists, publicists, radio stations, presenters, syndicated programs, showprep writers, TV programmers, journalists, editors, publications, websites, graphic designers, concert promoters, sponsors, retailers, and members of the public - anyone interested in what is happening in the Christian music scene in Australia.
